Special Spirits

There is a common adage about wines and spirits. The whole phrase goes this way, “Women, like fine wine, gets better with age.” The analogy is quite simple as it shows that women, or in fact people become better when they age. This can easily be seen with what people do and they commingle to provide the basis for the improvement of the personality. Why then the comparison to wine? Here are the simple reasons why.

1) Captured time in a bottle

The first and foremost reason why wine gets more expensive when it gets older is for the simple reason that the wine mixture can never be repeated again no matter how hard one tries. The wine process is an event hinged upon so many uncontrolled factors. Simple things, such as the amount of rainfall and the varying temperature, affect the acidity of the main ingredient in wines, which are grapes. Furthermore, the quality of water, the air taken in by the plant and the aging process all affect the liquid eventually bottled. In essence, what is captured in the bottle is the time of the grape at that moment in history and can never be repeated again.

2) The rarer the blend the more expensive

Like all things created, there is a finiteness to what can be produced. This is so much evident in the distillation of spirits and the making of wine. With a certain number of ingredients, such as sugar cane for gin or potatoes for vodka, then this can only result in a certain number of bottles. The same also holds true with wine, for the process requires a certain number of grapes. So once a batch of wine or liquor has been bottles, then that product is definite and cannot be extended without destroying the essence of the spirit. So the more wine or liquor produced from that particular inventory, the rarer it becomes. If the wine or the liquor is such a premium quality, then the more expensive it becomes since it is much harder to find.

3) Age makes the drink richer

The secret to making better quality liquor or wine is the aging of the product. This aging is a process wherein the liquid product is kept in oak barrels for a certain defined period of time. This would ensure that the wine is better aged, or time is provided in a controlled environment where the enzymes of the fruit and the alcohol can mix together to produce a much better tasting product. Also, by aging the liquid, the oak barrel provides for a controlled environment to allow the impurities of the process and the product to dissipate into the mixture.

So women, or for that matter people, like wine become better with time. The uniqueness of the wine is akin to the individuality of a woman. The rare qualities of the wine are preserved with the aging process, so much like a woman's innate qualities that endear her to a man.
